Abington 10K run - Alison Ross Cup

Sunday, 6 October 2013

The Abington 10K run was held this year on 6th October. The run was full and the weather was very pleasant. The results are on the PTFA website: http://www.greatabingtonprimaryschool.co.uk/pta.asp.

A new cup was presented by the family of Alison Ross in her memory. She had been a marshall in every race since its inception until her death earlier in the year. It is to be awarded each year to the Abington lady who in the opinion of the marshalls shows "indomitable spirit". Thr first recipient was Joan Nevin, who has run in every race and says:

"I have been running since I ran the London Marathon for my 50th with my running partners David and husband John. Never having run before it was a great experience.  Not wanting to waste the training I have carried on running mostly half-marathons.  I completed six half marathons last year for my 60th. I  joined the Haverhill Running Club which has lead to more competitive 10ks and really hard 5ks.  The best part of being fitter has been the chance to go on spectacular treks around the world.   Who knows what next - except that the Abington 10k is always the first event on the running calendar, and I'm proud to have run in every one so far. I think you can tell from the photo how pleased I was to receive the Alison Ross Cup, It is absolutely lovely and a great honour to have been presented with the cup in the inaugural year."
